Virtual Montessori Materials
Faithful on-screen versions of the classic materials, for families who don't have the real ones at hand. The real, physical material is always better when you can get it — see using this site for advice on substitutes you can make at home.
1Numbers to 10
2Linear & Skip Counting
- Teen Board (Seguin A)Slide unit cards over the printed tens to build 11–19, then lay a golden ten-bar and colored bead bar beside each row so quantity and symbol match.
- Ten Board (Seguin B)Slide unit cards over the printed tens to build any number 10–99, and lay out the matching golden ten-bars and unit beads.
- Hundred BoardPlace the tiles 1–100 on a ten-by-ten board, then mark the skip-counting patterns hiding in it.
- Bead ChainsSkip count the short bead chains of 2 through 10, then journey down the long hundred and thousand chains, labeling every ten.
3The Decimal System
- Golden Beads & MatThe flagship decimal-system material: a bank of golden unit beads, ten-bars, hundred-squares, and thousand-cubes for building numbers to 9,999 and working all four operations with real 10-for-1 exchanges.
- Large Number CardsCompose numbers to 9,999 by stacking place-value cards — and slide them apart to see the thousands, hundreds, tens, and units inside.
4Memorization of Facts
- Snake GameBuild a colorful snake of bead bars, then count it into golden tens — the classic game that plants the addition facts.
- Addition Strip BoardLay a blue strip and a red strip end-to-end to work every addition fact up to 9 + 9 = 18.
- Subtraction Strip BoardWork every subtraction fact to 18: a wooden cover hides the numbers you do not need, a blue strip takes away, and the answer is the number left showing.
- Multiplication Bead BoardBuild the tables 1–10 with red beads on a 100-hole board, counting every bead to find each product.
- Unit Division BoardDeal green beads out to skittles one fair round at a time and read the quotient — and any remainder — right off the board.
- Addition ChartsFind any addition fact where two fingers meet on the control chart, then rebuild the whole chart from memory with answer tiles.
- Multiplication ChartsFind any product where two fingers meet on the control chart, then rebuild the whole times table from memory with answer tiles.
5Passage to Abstraction
- Stamp GameAll four operations with place-value tiles — the golden beads condensed into identical stamps, dynamic exchanging included.
- Bead Frames (Small & Large)Slide beads along color-coded wires to build numbers to 9,999,999 and to add and subtract with real carrying and borrowing exchanges.
- CheckerboardMultiply numbers up to 4 digits by 4 digits: bead-bar partial products land on place-value colored squares, slide down their diagonals, and combine into the product.
- Racks & TubesTrue long division with racks of colored beads: deal rounds to skittles, exchange leftovers down a place, and watch the written record build itself — up to 9,999 ÷ 99.
